The USC Annenberg School for Communication and The Getty Foundation are pleased to announce the 7th annual USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Fellowship. Formerly held during the spring, the program for 2008 will be offered in the fall (November 1 to 22), in order to coincide with USC`s academic year and take advantage of the resources available through the University, including its new Master`s Program in arts journalism.

Six to seven arts journalists who bring distinction to the field will be chosen from the applicant pool. This is an international program for mid-career arts editors, critics and reporters from print, radio, television and online who cover the performing and visual arts, architecture, literature, entertainment and pop culture. They can be generalists or specialists. Staff writers, editors and freelancers and self-employed Web journalists alike are welcome to apply.

Based in Los Angeles, the fellowship is a total immersion experience that includes attending as many as 23 performances, art exhibitions and architectural sites. Participants will visit private studios, rehearsal rooms, architectural firms and art schools providing many behind-the-scene opportunities to meet renowned artists, arts administrators and accomplished journalists face-to-face.

Cost: The program covers most expenses, including: roundtrip travel to and from Los Angeles, hotel, most meals, reading materials, Internet access in your hotel room and transportation within Los Angeles.

Announcement: Multimedia Reporting Training Seminars

Multimedia Reporting Training Seminars
May 18 – 23; June 8 – 13; and July 6- 11, 2008

University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism

Application Deadline for all workshops is MARCH 28, 2008

The Knight Digital Media Center Multimedia Training Program is accepting applications for 20 fellowships per workshop for journalists to attend these seminars that combine practical instruction in multimedia reporting with in-depth exploration of issues in online publishing.

We are accepting concurrent applications for workshops being offered in May, June and July 2008. Applicants may apply to one, two or all three workshops. Because we receive far more applications than we can accommodate, applicants are encouraged to apply for multiple workshops to increase their chances of being accepted into one of them.

Participants will receive six days of intense hands-on instruction on how to do multimedia stories for the Web, including:

• Using digital video cameras, photo cameras and audio recorders;
• Doing storyboards, stand-ups, voiceovers and other broadcast techniques;
• Digital video, audio and photo editing; Creating photo slide shows inFlash;
• Web page creation and multimedia Web site design.

Fellows create a multimedia project as part of the seminar. In addition, there are evening and noontime presentations by online publishing experts on the most pressing issues in digital media.

WHO SHOULD APPLY: Professional print and broadcast journalists seeking multimedia skills. Fellowships include lodging, meals and instruction. Cost of travel to the workshop must be paid by the applicant`s news organization.

The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships

USC’s Annenberg School for Communication is calling for applications for its national health journalism seminars. Based in Los Angeles, *The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships* are open to professional print, broadcast and multimedia journalists from around the country who have a passion for health news.

The United States is rapidly becoming more diverse – today one-third of the nation’s 300 million residents are ethnic minorities. This program explores the intersection between community health, health policy and the nation’s growing diversity.

Participates receive free tuition, meals, travel to seminar locations and lodging for fellows. The program offers *a $2,000 reporting stipend* upon completion of major fellowship projects and it flies out editors for a special editor-fellow workshop. To encourage collaboration, the Annenberg School will award *$4000* in *reporting stipends* to teams of journalists from mainstream and ethnic media whose project would be expected to appear in both media outlets.
